Ingredients

  • 300 g jasmine rice (uncooked)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 eggs
  • salt and black pepper
  • 2 stalks green onion (sliced, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice until water runs clear, then add to the rice cooker with water according to your cooker's instructions.
  2. Add butter, minced garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil on top of the rice. Do not stir.
  3. Start the rice cooker on the regular cook cycle and let it run completely.
  4. Once done, gently fold the butter and garlic into the rice with a rice paddle.
  5. Meanwhile, fry the eggs in a pan with a little butter until whites are set but yolk is still runny.
  6. Serve rice in bowls, top each with a fried egg, green onion, and a pinch of black pepper.

This is the kind of recipe you make on a Tuesday when you have 30 minutes and zero motivation. The rice cooker does all the work while you fry an egg. That’s it. That’s the recipe.
